Phthalic anhydride, is a cyclic anhydride formed by intermolecular dehydration of phthalic acid. Benzyl anhydride is a white solid, is an important raw material in chemical industry, especially in the manufacture of plasticizer. Phthalate anhydride can be used instead of phthalic acid, mainly reacts with monoalcohols to form esters, such as dibutyl phthalate and dioctyl phthalate.
